Your Guide to Frida Kahlo’s Birthday Bashes in La Phoenikera

This Friday July 6 is Frida Kahlo’s birthday. We know that some Phoenikerxs out there are dying to channel their inner Frida and strut their head dresses and inspired outfits in public. That’s why we put together a list of birthday celebrations for you to hop this weekend.

We have a favor to ask you though. When your out crashing these parties, take tons of pictures and when you post them, use the hashtag #FridaPhoenikera so we can see all the beauty that was out there celebrating the first queen of the selfie in La Phoenikera.

SPECIAL NOTE: Remember that Frida Kahlo was indigenous, queer, disabled, a feminist, a communist, an activist, a patriot. If you loooooove Frida and you didn’t know this, shame on you! Love the real Frida. Not the washed up, flat image that roams around the interwebs.

Frida Birthday Bash Fiesta!

It sounds like this party is gonna be lit! There’s going to be artists painting live, Frida make-overs, live entertainment, a bar…obvi! And if you’re balling and can afford to be a VIP you can have access to performances by La Luz de la Luna and tango dancers, a private dinner, tequila tasting and cigar rolling. Gat dam!

There will be a print-making session, brush lettering workshop and water color postcard crafting. They will also have a performance by a local singer, a Frida cake demo by national TV start Candy Ramirez, a food truck, give-aways every hour, a Frida flower crown contest and I’m sure many, many more things, knowing how the Phoenix Fridas get down with their annual Frida party.

This is an open mic night dedicated to the mujeres chingonas of La Phoenikera. If you have a poem to recite, a song to sing or a story to tell that speaks to the power of womanhood, this is your night. Also, your piece doesn’t have to be about Frida Kahlo and you don’t have to be a chick to participate. As long as you talk pay homage to the power of the femme, you’re golden!
