Call For Artists Bonanza in La Phoenikera

Call for artists are popping up left and right in La Phoenikera and local artists should at least take a look at what is going on.

Murals, public art opportunities and connections with local businesses and institutions are hot right now (I hate it that it reads like a Cosmo mag article for the latest fashion trends, but it kinda is like that).

Art created by street artist in Phoenix has become a commodity, and instead of being shooed off, graffiteros and muralists are now welcomed to coolify the city’s walls. Nothing wrong with that, so long artist are proportionally rewarded for their work.

So, if you create art, either professionally or have been doing it since day one, check out these three opportunities coming up. Ojo, deadlines are around the corner, so better get your shit together and not miss them.

The first one and the closest deadline is TMC’s call for an artist who can help design and paint a mural on one of their building walls located in dwntwn La Phoenikera, 801 E. Washington St. (corner of 8th Street and Washington). The awarded artists will get a 5k stipend to complete the work (they’ll have to cough up the materials). For more detailed info click HERE. Deadline to apply is Monday, 4/23.

The ACLU also has a call for artists of all mediums to celebrate the organization’s 60th year anniversary. It will select 40 Arizona based artists for a statewide traveling exhibit, titled “In This Together: Sixty Years of Daring to Create a More Perfect Arizona.” This exhibit will have its opening at ASU Gammage in late October and the deadline to submit a proposal is 5/30.

There is no remuneration attached to this project other than having your work exposed. We’d hope the ACLU reconsiders paying the chosen artists at least a small stipend, after all, this is not easy work and exposure don’t pay rent. If this is something that interests you, check out the requirements and other deets.

Lastly, the Phoenix Art Museum is asking emerging artists to submit their work to apply for a grant. The deadline is coming up on 4/27 so, échale gas and make sure you submit following all guidelines.
