MEChA de ASU Organizes Chicanx Film Festival
To celebrate what last year was proclaimed by Senator Juan Mendez as Chicanx Week (first week of February), MEChA de ASU is organizing their first Chicanx Film Festival.
MEChA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán and it’s a student organization that was formed to promote higher education, community engagement, political participation, culture, and history.
They have chapters in colleges all over the country and MEChA de ASU is a group of about 20 students, the majority of whom are Phoenikerxs.
We spoke to MEChA de ASU member Jesusita Morón who said that for this festival they wanted to include films from different Latin American countries.
“We want to be inclusive of all the Latin American cultures that support the Chicanx movement and we want to bring awareness to their stories,” she says.
All the films are going to be shown at ASU Tempe’s Memorial Union at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion.
Here are the films of the festival.
